Walter was born August 14, 1917, on a farm southeast of Radcliffe, IA. He was the son of Carl and Bertha (Dreifke) Neubauer. Walter was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hubbard, IA. On August 19, 1942, Walter was united in marriage to Alice Ruth Moe. Walter and Alice were married for more than 63 years. To this union two daughters were born, Marcella and Carol. They lived at and farmed the home place on which Walter was born until 1999 when they moved to Cedar Ridge in Iowa Falls, IA. In 2009, Walter moved to Ashbrook apartments in Iowa Falls, IA. In 1955 the family joined Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe, IA, where Walter and family were active members. In 2001 he and Alice joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls, IA, where both Walter and Alice remained members until their deaths. Walter considered himself a full-time farmer but also worked as an electrician from 1938 – 1972. He enjoyed the farm and often worked with relatives and lifelong friends during planting, hay season and harvest. The grandkids enjoyed many tractor and pickup rides around the farm. In 1970 he began work for Central Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, remaining there for 10 years. Walter was a member of Kiwanis in Radcliffe and Iowa Falls for nearly 40 years. He also served on the Radcliffe Farmers Coop board for several years. Walter was a devoted son, brother, husband and father, as well as a trusted friend. He had a strong faith in his Lord. Spending time with family and friends was most important to him. He enjoyed woodworking and created many beautiful presents and projects. Family and friends remember his creativity and ability to fix almost anything. He enjoyed travel and became a skilled photographer, often taking beautiful pictures. He and Alice were members of the Friendship Force. He was an enthusiastic game player, enjoying both table games and outdoor games and was an exceptionally good golfer. He was an ardent reader and loved the outdoors and nature. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Alice; and siblings Dorothea (Robert) Weiler, Lydia (Sylvan) Van Dyke, Agnes (Ewald) Daleske, Anna (Jasper) Olson, Edward (Clara) Neubauer and Lorena (Frank) Kinney. Walter is survived by his children Marcella Kyle of Georgetown, TX, and Carol (Marshal) Chesmore of Sherrard, IL; grandchildren Jeremy (Terri) Wheelock, David Kyle, Matthew Bokmeyer, Todd (Teresa) Wheelock, Aaron (Melody) Bokmeyer, Ryan (Julie) Wheelock, Dan (Jessica) Wheelock and Hannah (Andy) Chesmore-Potts; great-grandchildren Alex, Caroline, Noelle and Benjamin Bokmeyer, Kayla (Jordan) Cook, Brady, Rachel, Trevor, Kameron, Maranda, Kimber, Elijah, William, Adlen, Avery and Sadie Wheelock, Quinn and Hoyt Potts; sisters-in-law Clara (Edward) Neubauer of Aurora, CO, and May (Moe) Blackstad of Redondo Beach, CA; an Australian foreign exchange student Gemise (Rob) Winstanley of Melbourne, Australia; cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
