Richard Paulus officiating for Walter Marion DeVoe, 88, who died August 21. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. He was born September 13, 1889 in DeSmet, SD, a son of Cora Sutherland Devoe and Henry M. Devoe. He spent most of his youth in Sheffield and graduated from 4 c's Business College in Des Moines in 1906. On September 19, 1910, he married Ollie I. Froning. The couple lived in Des Moines where he was a bookkeeper in the Carr-Moehl Company. In 1913, they moved to Elberon to operate the Elberon Lumber Yard, where he continued in business until the spring of 1976. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Elberon ad served on the church board. He also was a councilman and school board member in Elberon. Ollie DeVoe died on December 20, 1971, and after that, Walter made his home with his granddaughter and her husband, Mary Lou and Bill Harrison of Walker. On November 1, 1972, he married Marie Kucera and they made their home in Dysart. Because of serious illness, he spent the last two years as a patient at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. Among his survivors are his widow, Marie of Dysart; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Evelyn) Brockway of Brandon, and Mrs. Ethel Jean Mussman of Marengo; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Byrl Gillespie, Glenn Kaloupek, Robert Rayman, Charles Breja, William R. Upah, and Otto Ulch. Frances Gillespie was organist.
