Williams Dead ------ Well-Known Citizen Passed Away Yesterday Morning Mr. Walter Meade Williams, who had been in ill health for some months past, died yesterday morning at 4 o'clock at his home, 723 court street. While the state of Mr. Williams health had been such as to cause much anxiety to his friends, the announcement of his death was a great shock, for it was hoped that he would ultimately recovered. Deceased was a son of the late J. O. Williams, and was born in this city 42 years ago, and had resided in Lynchburg all of his life. His first occupation was that of assistant secretary of the Y.M.C.A., which position he filled acceptably for several years, and, at the time of his death, was the only surviving life-member of the Lynchburg Association. For the past eighteen years he had been in the local freight department of the Norfolk & Western Railway, being repeatedly promoted until, at the time of his death, he he was holding the position of chief clerk. Mr. Williams was a man of the highest personal character, of strict integrity and an earnest and devout member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, of which he had been a deacon for a number of years. Mr. Williams was on October 1, 1893, united in marriage with Miss Julia Estelle Starke, of this city, who, with one son, Walter Meade Williams Jr., survives him. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Joseph S. Barnes and Mrs. Kate Flood, and one brother Mr. J. C. Williams all of this city. The funeral services will take place this Wednesday, afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at Westminster Presbyterian Church, and will be conducted by the pastor, Rev. Wallace T. Palmer. The interment will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery.
