Mr. Perry went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. A lifelong Christian, he always sought to help not only his family but all those he came in contact with. The son of John Woodward Perry and Lena Plowden Perry, he was born in Alcolu, SC, just before the beginning of the Great Depression. Mr. Perry lived a long and full 92 year life on this earth serving God and loving his family. He was predeceased by his older brother and sister, J. Woodward Perry and Sara Perry Smith of Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his family, his loving wife, Dorothy Foard Perry, who was the love of his life for nearly 64 years of marriage. They have two children, Denise Perry Johnson of Irmo, SC and Marshall Plowden Perry of Dothan, Ala. Mr. Perry is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; two grandsons, Ryan Edward Johnson and Jason Adam Johnson (Ewelina Karolina Suczuk Johnson); a great-grandson, Tyler Edward Johnson; and one grandog, Daisy, who in his final months was a great comfort to him. Mr. Perry served his country honorably in World War II serving in the US Army Field Artillery in the European Theatre as a 1st Lieutenant. Upon returning to the United States, Mr. Perry worked in the telecommunications industry for several years before becoming an Insurance Adjuster, a field in which he excelled for over 55 years. He retired at the age of 82. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Centennial A.R. Presbyterian Church, 1413 Laurel Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
