Dohn, 75, of Eureka will be Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Eureka Baptist Church. He died Feb. 6, 2007, at Avera Eureka Community Hospital. Walter R. Dohn, son of Christ and Sophia (Bertsch) Dohn, was born Aug. 11, 1931, at Eureka, S.D. He grew up on the family homestead between Eureka and Venturia, N.D. He started his education in a country school and later attended Eureka High School, graduating with the Class of 1948. He then went on to attend Northern State Teacher's College where he received his teaching certificate. He taught country school north of Eureka for two years. He was united in marriage to Martha Fischer Sept. 23, 1951, in Eureka Reformed Church. They made their home on a farm east of Eureka and were general farmers. In spring 1958, they sold the farm and moved into Eureka. He worked for Eureka Equity Exchange and later for the Ford-John Deere Dealer as bookkeeper/partsman and later for the International Harvester Dealer as bookkeeper/partsman/salesman. In 1971, he became the Administrator of the Eureka Hospital where he held this position for 20 years before becoming the Administrator at the Eureka Health Care Center in 1991. He retired in spring 1998. He was a member of Eureka Baptist Church, where he had taught Sunday school and was a Deacon. Survivors include his wife of Eureka; two sons, David (Peggy) Dohn of Grand Forks, N.D., and Tim Dohn of Sioux Falls; one daughter, Cindy (Kim) Miller of Bowdle; two brothers, Albert (Irene) Dohn of LaMoure, N.D., and Theophil (Joyce) Dohn of Eureka; one sister, Martha Bader of Aberdeen; seven granddaughters, Danielle Knutt, Nicole Carlson, Rachelle Hunt, Lindsey Dohn, Sara Bobby, Elizabeth Miller and Jessica Dohn; and one great-grandson, Dylan Hunt. His parents, two brothers, Adolph and Edmund and three sisters, Otilla Dohn, Clara Dockter and Ella Dohn preceded him in death. Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka has been entrusted with arrangements.
