Read More	Walt Pfister, 88, peacefully passed away on Aug. 4, 2013. We know he will be welcomed in heaven by many who have preceded him and greatly missed by those he leaves behind. Walt was born Dec. 6, 1924, in Great Falls, Mont., to Ernest and Katherine Pfister. He grew up working with his family on farms in Simms, Sun River and the Bitterroot Valley. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with a lifelong group of friends in WWII. Upon his return to the U.S., he met Ida Menghini in Great Falls, Mont. They were married Sept. 5, 1946, in Hamilton, Mont., and were in love for 67 years. The first months of their marriage were spent working in the Bitterroot Valley with his brother-in-law Gin Townsend as a hunting guide. In 1948, Walt and Ida moved to Roundup, Mont., and he began a career with Fergus Electric Cooperative, where he worked until his retirement in 1988. Walt and Ida raised five children in Roundup. A devoted father and husband, Walt also served as a Boy Scout leader, impacting the lives of countless young men from the Musselshell Valley. In the early 1970s, Walt helped establish the Roundup EMS and retired from that after 20 years of service. Walt and Ida spent their retirement years traveling to visit family, attending Marine Corps reunions, hunting, fishing and enjoying their time together. Walt was the epitome of leading by example. He was a role model for everyone who knew him and leaves a legacy of people who have benefited from his knowledge, patience and guidance. Many people remember Walt for his calm and level-headed demeanor under difficult circumstances and his ability to solve any problem with a simple and effective solution. Walt had a great story telling ability and could get a laugh out of anyone when he recounted his life experiences. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ernest and baby Thomas; sisters baby Catherine, Marguerite Townsend, Julia Deason. Walt is survived by his wife, Ida; his sons Spud (Elena), John (Kathy), Tom (Beverly), Steve (Debbie); and a daughter, Lori (Dave). He is also survived by brothers, Rudy Pfister, Fred (Celeste), Bill; and a sister, Joanne (Don) Tomlin; and 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitations will begin Thursday morning at Smith Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at Smith Downtown Chapel with military honors and interment at the Yellowstone County Veterans Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Big Sky Honor Flight, Roundup EMS, or charity of your choice.
