He is remembered and loved dearly by his children: Lorraine (Ambrose), Dale (Gwen), Barbara (Raymond); grandchildren: Gary (Sherry), Terry-Ann (Bob), Todd (Tracy), Pat (LaNina), Darcy (Laurena); great grandchildren Blaine, Dylan, Jason, Jenna, Marissa, Samantha, Shanna, Sidney, Adam, and Michael. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Jean of 58 years, parents Pender and Jennie Smith, brother Percy and wife Helen, father and mother-in-law Joseph and Mary Howell, brother-in-law Tom Tate. Walter was born August 4, 1922 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and moved to the Peace Country in 1932. Walter worked in the lumber (sawmill) business with his dad and brother from 1943 to 1954 and then ran heavy equipment-graders until 1995 at which time he retired. Walter enjoyed playing cards, hunting, camping, fishing, traveling, spending time at Dale’s gravel crushing business and buffalo ranch, but most of all visiting with family and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 14, 2010 at 1:00 p. m. at Grovedale Hall with luncheon to follow.
