He was raised and educated near Marlin, Washington and served in the U.S. Army in the 1940's. He married Alice Bischoff on August 29, 1945 in the Ruff, Washington area and they farmed there until moving to Moses Lake in 1973. He has resided there since. He was raised and educated near Marlin, Washington and served in the U.S. Army in the 1940's. He married Alice Bischoff on August 29, 1945 in the Ruff, Washington area and they farmed there until moving to Moses Lake in 1973. He has resided there since. After moving to Moses Lake, Walter worked in real estate finding much enjoyment in meeting new people and making new friends. He also found time for his passion of trapshooting events and enjoying family visits. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Alice; a brother, Eric Spies; and one sister, Esther Schwartz; and grandson, Shawn Spies. Survivors include brother, Herbert Spies, Moses Lake, WA; son, Ted Spies of Spokane, WA; daughter, Connie Kennelly of Kennewick, WA; grandson, Ryan Kennelly of Moses Lake, WA; granddaughters, Kami Kennelly of Bethesda, MD, Aprille and Kristal Spies of Spokane, WA; and two great-granddaughters, Talia and Brittney. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. At Walter's request there will be no formal service. A private family burial will be held at Pioneer Memorial Gardens, Moses Lake, WA.
