Body of Tillman Boy Found The body of Walter Tillman, who was drowned in the Missouri river east of Falls City, Sunday, Aug. 6, was found at Oregon, MO. last Friday. The father Levi Tillman of Falls City was notified that a body had been found and upon his arrival, he identified it as the body of his son. The remains were then brought up the river to Rulo where a Falls City undertaker took charge. The funeral was held at Falls City last Sunday. Respectfully submitted.... He with two neighbor boys, Floyd Record and Benj. Haekworth were on the bank when he expressed a desire to take another swim. He is survived by his parents, two older sisters, Mrs. Louis Rhodes west of Barada, Mrs. Gilbert Uhling, Roselle, Nebr. and a young sister and brother at home. It was reported that a body was found and buried at Oregon, MO. on Wednesday which is thot to be Walter's. Mr. McNulty and others left to identify the body and bring here if it proves to be the Tilman boys. Falls city, Neb., Aug. 7. Walter Tillman, seventeen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Tillman, was drowned late Sunday afternoon while swimming in the Missouri river near his home, fourteen miles northeast of this city. Two small boys who were with him made a desperate attempt at rescue, but were driven back by the swift undertow. Farmers spent the greater part of the last night in dragging the river and Monday morning resorted to dynamite in an effort to recover the body, but all attempts have thus far been futile. Page 5 Another victim of the Old Mizzoo The following account in the Falls City News of the death of Walter Tillman by drowning in the Missouri river should serve as a warning to other boys to be more careful about swimming in the treacherous stream. News was received in the city Sunday evening of the death of Walter Tillman, the 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Tillman, who lost his life while swimming with some friends in the Missouri river east of his home. The Tillman family reside on farm lands in Barada township, owned by County Treasurer O.O. Marsh. Walter and some friends including two sons of Leonard Record, a neighbor, went to the river at a point on the line between sections Nos. 27 and 34 of Barada township where they were enjoying themselves durin the hot afternoon. Those with him were unable to account for the accident as he is reported to be a good swimmer. The point where he sank to his death the waters are probably twenty feet deep. Aid was immediately summoned and every effort was made to recover the body which has so far not been found. The deceased is survived by his parents and a brother of four years and a sister of 12 at home and another sister, Mrs. Louis Rhodes, JR., a resident of this county.
