Description	:	HOLTON – Walt Lierz, 68, of Holton, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born January 3, 1939 at Wetmore, the son of Lawrence and Melinda Hasenkamp Lierz. He attended Wetmore schools. Walt was a cattleman all his life. He also worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Allis-Chalmers in Topeka, and later worked for Strader Drilling, Hamm's Rock Quarry and owned and operated Lierz Shoe Repair in Holton. Read More	HOLTON – Walt Lierz, 68, of Holton, died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka. He was born January 3, 1939 at Wetmore, the son of Lawrence and Melinda Hasenkamp Lierz. He attended Wetmore schools. Walt was a cattleman all his life. He also worked for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Allis-Chalmers in Topeka, and later worked for Strader Drilling, Hamm's Rock Quarry and owned and operated Lierz Shoe Repair in Holton. He was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton and the U.S. Army Reserve. He played in several country bands, including "Walt & the Ghost Riders". He loved his family, especially watching his kids & grandkids in sports and other activities, and he loved his Jayhawks. He married Virginia Lee "Jean" Korte on October 7, 1961 at Kelly. She survives of the home. Walt was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Lierz and Leonard Lierz. Other survivors include five sons, Ivan Lierz, Topeka, Paul Lierz and Max Lierz, both of Holton, and Edward Lierz and Albert Lierz, both of Overland Park; two brothers, Larry Lierz, Shawnee, and Robert Lierz, Topeka; five sisters, Geraldine Edwards, Marysville, Wilma Ross, Horton, Norma Jean Hirt, Waterville, and Shirley Hutfles and Alberta Tanking, both of Holton; and thirteen grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 21st at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Ontario Cemetery near Bancroft. Walt will lie in state at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton where family and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with a rosary being said at 7:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jackson County Friends of Hospice, or Jackson Heights FFA, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 1034, 66436.
