Read More	Toledo Newspaper - December 1937 Walter Earhart Is Killed in Accident Garwin Elevator Clothing Was Caught in Machinery; Funeral On Sunday The community was greatly shocked about 1:30 p.m. Thursday by the accidental death of Walter Earhart, highly-esteemed citizen of Garwin. Mr. Earhart, who was an employee of Lorensen and Beale, was working at the elevator when his clothes were caught in some machinery, causing him to be whirled around and around, his head and body striking against some timbers with every revolution. Harold Reierson was standing beneath him and saw the clothes get caught and called to someone nearer the switch to turn off the power. Dr. Knight was summoned and was there in a few moments but life was gone. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the United Brethren church and was conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Patton. There were more in attendance than the church auditorium would hold. Music was furnished by Mrs. A.D. Ward, Mrs. R.W. Jorgensen, Mrs. H.H. Hall and Mrs. J.I. Dobbyn, with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Ralph Rider. The selections used were "Have Thine Own Way, Lord", "Face to Face" and "God Will Take Care of You." The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Carl Nielsen, Mrs. Earl Nielsen, Mrs. Milo McPherran and Mrs. Carl Knode. Casket bearers were Raymond and Lyle Lorensen, Milo McPherran, Harold Lovstad, Eldo Hagedorn, and Leonard Nielsen. Burial was in the Garwin cemetery. Walter Wesley Earhart, son of John and Anna Earhart, was born in Tama county, Iowa, June 30, 1900, and died December 30, 1937, at the age of 37 years and 6 months. He was married February 19, 1921, to Miss Hazel Snodgrass and four children were born to them, Eunice, Cathern, Shirley and Marion. He was devoted to his home and family and was an exceptionally kind husband and father. In 1928 he and his family moved to Bremer county where they lived for six years. On his return to Garwin he transferred his church membership to the United Brethren, where he was still a faithful member. In addition to his wife and four daughters, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Joe Babor, of near Garwin, two half-brothers, Jim, of Whitten, and Ed, of near Marshalltown and his step-father, James Lowry of Green Mountain.
