Giffin ___________________ Funeral services were held on Friday at the Christian church for Walter W. Giffin of Lincoln, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, [1942]. Mr. Giffin had lived in Lincoln for more than twenty years, but made his home in Valparaiso previous to that time. He was a carpenter by trade and built many of the houses here. He continued as a contractor in Lincoln until some years ago when poor health forced him to retire. For the past five months his condition was serious and he was in the hospital twice recently, the last time for a period of three weeks. Obituary Walter W. Giffin was born September 19 th, 1868 at Ashland, Nebraska. He was married to Gertrude Adeline Cunningham, March 10, 1889, at Valparaiso. To their union were born twelve children, five boys and seven girls. One died in infancy. Surviving are the wife, Gertrude; two daughters, Mrs. W. C. Emery, Buffalo, N. Y., and Mrs. Sam P. Hard., Corpus Christi, Texas; four sons, Clyde B of Laurel, Mont; Earl W., of Fleming Colo; Wess H. and Ira A., both of Colorado Springs; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. All of the children were here for the funeral except Mrs. Hard, who had visited her father a month ago. Mr. Giffin became a member of the Christian church at an early age and maintained his faith during his life. Rev. John Alber, of Lincoln was in charge of the funeral service, using as his text the Beatitude, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." Mrs. Floyd Edwards and Mrs. Harry Christensen sang, with Mrs. Coager at the piano. Pallbearers were Harry Edwards, Andrew Cook, Ed Cheaver, Nels Christiansen, Ol Lattin, and Frank Kloke. Burial was in the Valparaiso Cemetery.
