Read More	Wanda Jeanette Cary, 90, of Alvo, Neb., passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Bryan Medical Center, East-Lincoln, Neb. Wanda was born on May 4, 1924, in Miami, Okla. Wanda was the second of eight children born, at home, to Fred and Hattie Mercer, of Miami. Wanda was able to only complete a partial year of 8th grade, as she took over caring for her ailing mother and raising her younger siblings. She married David Cary, of Pawnee City, Neb., on Aug. 23 1956. This marriage entered her into a life of Air Force wife who would get a chance to see England during the early years of marriage and make many new and valued friends that remain to this day. Prior to her marriage to David she had worked in Tulsa, Okla., rising to the position of merchandising supervisor. This was also when she encountered one of the great Western Swing Bands, "Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys". She could be found listening to them and other early stars, such as Buck Owens, outside of Cain's Ballroom, in Tulsa. Additionally, she was employed later at Madonna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Lincoln, Neb. Her greatest accomplishment though was her life as a wife, mother, and homemaker. Wanda had a love of flowers and of birds. In her later years she found peace sitting on the front porch, at her home in Alvo, listening and watching birds, squirrels and the children of the town as they passed by. She was extremely proud of both her children and grandchildren and was known as the person they could confide in about anything. Wanda had great faith in God. When she told you she was praying for you, or a situation you were in, you could trust in her word and in her prayers. She also had a grand sense of humor and could laugh easily even if the joke was at her expense. She was also an expert at crossword puzzles and word search games. Despite her formal education she had educated herself and become someone who believed lifelong education was important. She could often be found working on a crossword puzzle in one of the numerous newspapers she read. Very seldom did she use a crossword dictionary or seek out answers elsewhere. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hattie Mercer; sisters, Virgie Newcomb and Geneva Pantier; and brother, Bob Mercer. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David Cary, (Alvo); sons, Keith Cary (Papillion, Neb.) and Rev. Roger Cary (Fairfax, Mo.); five grandchildren, Mesha Cary (Omaha), Megan Cary (Mobile, Ala.), Dustin Cary (Omaha), David Cary (Owensboro, Ky.), and Senior Airman (E-4) Izaac Cary (Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.); and one great-grandchild, Lahonna Bessey (Cook, Neb.). Wanda is also survived by brothers, Joseph (Bud) Mercer (Miami, Okla.), George Mercer (Miami), Jack Mercer (Miami,), Denny Mercer (Miami), and Gaylene Miller (Joplin, Mo.) along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends. Memorial services will be 11 am Monday, Dec. 8, at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln.
