Description	:	Wanda Kay Hoeksema was born September 26, 1956 to James and Maxine (Rezek) Hoeksema in Platte, SD. The family resided in Pickstown before moving to a farm south of Platte in 1960 where Wanda helped milk cows. On March 19, 1959, Wanda was baptized and on June 20, 1971 confirmed in her Lutheran faith, which was very important to her. She attended Signal Country School near the farm and later grade school in Platte before graduating from Platte High School in 1974. After graduation, she attended Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD where she received her degree in Laboratory Sciences. Upon attaining her degree, she moved to Chamberlain to work as a Laboratory Technician at the Community Bailey Hospital. On September 1, 1979, Wanda was united in marriage to Dale Swanson at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Platte, SD. After the birth of their daughter Nicole, Dale and Wanda made the decision for her to stay home and help Dale on the farm and raise their family. They were blessed with five more children: Daniel, Joseph, Genevieve, Audra, and Erica. Wanda enjoyed raising her family and helping Dale on the farm. She was involved with neighborhood and church groups, and took pleasure in sewing and quilting in her free time. Wanda passed away on February 20, 2017 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 60 years. From the Hickey Funeral Home
