Description	:	Wanda Mae (Newton) McCabe, 82, of Lafayette, passed away at 2:09 a.m., Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Mulberry Health & Retirement after a brief illness. Born August 17, 1930 in Lafayette, she was the eldest of the late Clarence and Dorothy Newton. Wanda was a 1949 graduate of Monitor High School. Born August 17, 1930 in Lafayette, she was the eldest of the late Clarence and Dorothy Newton. Wanda was a 1949 graduate of Monitor High School. There, she was a member of the 1947 County Championship Cheerleading Squad. After graduation, she worked at Chupp's Jewelers and Alcoa, where she met her first husband, Max Rhoades. In 1952, they married. After 14 years, they divorced, and in 1988, he preceded her in death. For over 25 years, Wanda worked at Arnett Clinic in payroll. She also spent a few years at Newton Oil. In 1982, a special relationship began for Wanda. She was introduced to Robert Wayne McCabe. After 2 years of courtship, they were married on April 7th, 1984. They shared 15 wonderful years together on the farm, where she fully embraced the farming lifestyle. Robert passed away in June 1999. Wanda was a member of the Dayton United Methodist Church. She was active there with various committees and volunteer work. She belonged to the Clinton County Home Ec Club, Bible Study Fellowship, and the Christians Women Club. She enjoyed reading about the Civil War, biographies of famous people, playing cards, and following the Cubs. Spending time with family and friends was very important to her, as well as traveling. Surviving are her sons, Steve Rhoades of Seattle, WA, Daniel Rhoades of Lafayette, Michael Rhoades of Fond du Lac, WI, and David Rhoades of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Michael, Rachael, Sandra, Madison, Nicholas, Ethan, and Kathryn; three great grandchildren and 3 step great grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Clifford (Jinny) Newton, Carol Neal, and Nancy (John) Brand. Services for Wanda will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 24 at Dayton United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Wyandotte Cemetery near Dayton. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette.
