Daniel, a resident of Madison county for the past thirty years, died at his home in south Battle Creek at 10 o'clock Tuesday night, following a long illness with cancer of the stomach. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church at 1 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon. A short time ago Mr. Daniel went to Omaha with the hope that a surgical operation would relieve him. When the nature of his complaint was disclosed by the surgeons no hope for his recovery was entertained. He was barely able to return home and since his return he grew weaker day by day until the end came as stated. Resolution of Respect.-- Warner H. Daniel was born on April 1, 1851, in Allegheny county, N. C., and died at Battle Creek, Nebr., on January 6, 1914, aged 62 years, 9 months and 6 days, after a long struggle with a tumorous cancer of the colon. He underwent a surgical operation at Omaha last fall, but after his return home he grew weaker steadily, retaining consciousness till the end. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church at Battle Creek last Thursday afternoon, conductd by Rev. G. A. DeFrance of Meadow Grove, The invocation was given by Rev. Phillips of Battle Creek, and the address by Rev. Mower of Lincoln. The remains were laid to rest in Union cemetery. Mr. Daniel married Nancy Phipps on January 16, 1876, and to them were born two sons, J. E. and J. C. Daniel. Surviving relatives are the father, the widow, two sons, two brothers and a sister. The father is living in Virginia and the sons in Highland precinct, Madison county. One brother, Joseph, resides at Fremont, Nebr., and the other, C. L., in Highland precinct. The sister, Mrs. Phipps, is in Virginia. Another sister preceded him about a month ago. Warner Daniel was one of a family of seven children, four boys and three girls. He was reared as a farmer and continued in that occupation in North Carolina until 1883, when he removed to Madison county, Nebr. He lived five years near Norfolk and from that time until three years ago was a resident of Highland precinct. Having accumulated a competency, he retired from active life and took up his residence in Battle Creek. About 32 years ago he united with the South M. E. church; in 1901, in Highland precinct, with the Protestant Methodists, and in 1904 went with the latter society into the United Brethren in Christ. He was one of the first trustes of Hillsdale church and served continuously as such until his death. Warner H. Daniel was a good husband and father, honest in all business dealings, a true friend and a kind neighbor. "He wore the white flower of a blameless life."
