He was born June 21, 1919 in Ottumwa to Reynold and Bertha Anderson Larson. He married Elizabeth J. "Bette" MacKenzie Oct. 22, 1941. She preceded him in death Jan. 9, 1988. A resident of Ottumwa all of his life, he was a graduate of Ottumwa High School and Iowa Success School. He worked at Swift and Company before serving in the United States Army during World War II. He owned and operated Ruth Tastee, worked for Schafer Ice Co., and retired as general manger of Sieg-Ottumwa in 1982 after 23 years of service. He served as Public Safety and Finance Commissioner for the City of Ottumwa. He was a member of Willard St. United Methodist Church, O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion, Ottumwa Rotary Club, Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M., Clinton Chapter #9, Ottumwa Council #31, Malta Commandery #31 and was active in the Little League program. Surviving are two daughters, Linda Uhde of Ottumwa and Julia J. Dillehay of Council Bluffs; two sons, Jon C. Larson of Bowling Green, Mo. and Lars J. Larson of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother Donald Larson of Ottumwa; and a sister, Mildred Torrence of Scottsdale, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Larson; and two infant sisters, Virginia and Betty. Funeral services will 1 p.m. Monday at Willard St. United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephanie Raphael-Nakos officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 of the American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Sunday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Jeff and Curt Uhde, Kelly and Tom Coulter, Kathryn, Sara, Meghan and Becky Larson and Mark and Molly Dillehay. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Little, Carroll White, Tom Lyon, Delbert Trowbridge, Art Johnson and John Dennis. Memorials may be made to Willard St. United Methodist Church or Hospice, Inc.
