He was the son of George and Anna Schmeir Longhurst. He married Mary Lee Witteman November 23, 1952, at St. Mary Church in Muscatine, Iowa. Longhurst, 84, passed away at Lutheran Homes in Muscatine, Iowa on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Warren was born on February 6, 1926 in Clinton, Iowa. He was the son of George and Anna Schmeir Longhurst. He married Mary Lee Witteman November 23, 1952, at St. Mary Church in Muscatine, Iowa. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served overseas during World War II. He was a machine operator at Alcoa for more than 28 years. He was an active member of the Ss. Mary and Mathias Parish, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Alcoa Retirees Club, as well as a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking, baking and traveling with a Winnebago Club. He always enjoyed visiting with friends. Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Lee Longhurst of Muscatine; three sons, George Longhurst and significant other, Suzanne Monroe of Muscatine, Anthony Longhurst and Sue Shoultz of Muscatine, and Christopher Longhurst; a daughter, Vidette Ostermeier and husband, Larry, of Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Anna Schmeir Longhurst; a daughter, Marie Longhurst; a son, Leo Longhurst; and seven brothers, Robert, Thomas, Leonard, Russell, Raymond, Euston and Francis. A funeral luncheon was held at Gannon Hall following the committal service. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Visitation was held from 3-6PM Thursday, January 13, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Services were held at 10AM Friday, January 14, 2011, at St. Mary Church in Muscatine.
