Williamson Scholarship Fund at SDSU or to First Presbyterian Church. Warren E. Williamson was born January 4, 1927, on a farm near Hurley, South Dakota, the son of Nels G. and Florence B. (Pasco) Williamson. He was raised on the farm and graduated from Hurley High School in 1945. He joined the U.S. Army in July 1945 and served until his discharge on December 3, 1946, as a sergeant. He earned a B.S. degree in 1951 and his M.S. degree in 1954 from South Dakota State University. He received a Directors Degree in Recreation from Indiana University in 1969. On November 21, 1948, Warren married Dorothy G. Benson at Hurley. Warrens career as a teacher, coach, professor, and administrator in South Dakota public schools spanned 36 years. He was at Clear Lake High School from 1951 to 1954, and at Winner High School from 1954 until 1956. He was the wrestling coach at SDSU from 1956 until 1973. He coached freshman football, was the intramural director, and assistant athletic director. He developed the public recreation major at SDSU. Upon his retirement in 1987, he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus. Warren served as an elder and trustee of First Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Brookings Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M.; Brookings York Rite bodies; El Riad Shrine Temple; Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 15; American Legion; Golden K; and a life member of the South Dakota State Historical Society. He wrote three books and was interested in genealogy, gardening, antiques, South Dakota history, and travel. He was an active community volunteer and was a great supporter of SDSU activities and events. His family and many friends were of greatest importance to him. Warren had received numerous awards and recognitions, including the SDSU Distinguished Alumnus Award, the SDSU Athletic Hall of Fame, the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame; F.O. Butler Award for service to students; NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame; South Dakota State Park and Recreation Hall of Fame; and the National Intramural Association Distinguished Service Award. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of Brookings; a daughter, Carolyn Jean (Scott) Trudell of Las Vegas, Nevada; a son, Thomas Lee (Tracey) Williamson of St. Joseph, Missouri; and three grandchildren: Wade, Casey, and Jessica.
