He was born in Napoleon on Aug. 30, 1928, a son of Warren and Grace Kretz Ruch. Besides his parents who reside two miles east and one half miles south of Jewell, he leaves two brothers, Willian and Larry, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kretz, Napoleon; and a great aunt, Miss Elizabeth Schaff who makes her home in the Ruch residence. The victim was graduated May 16 from Jewell high school and took the job with the county highway department last week. He attempted to jump onto the running board of the truck driven by Perry Lehman of Jewell while holding a broom in one hand. He lost his grip on the truck door and fell so that the rear dual wheels passed over the middle of his body. A stone spreader attached to the rear of the truck then caught and dragged him some distance before the truck stopped. Services for Warren J. Ruch Jr., Jewell, who was fatally injured by a stone truck, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Morris Mortuary with Rev. Warner E. Holmgren, pastor of Zion's Lutheran church, officiating. Burial was in Independence cemetery. Miss Lois Shepfer sang with Miss Carolyn Morris at the piano. Pallbearers, members of Warren's graduating class at Jewell in May were: Edward Williamson, Charles Lehman, Wilfred Rathge, Richard Mekus, Richard McCann and Francis Coressel. Other members of the graduating class carried flowers: Mary Lou Ryan, Paul Steinberger, Bernard Herr, Harley Flory, Lenore Plassman, Betty Flory, Eleanor Newell, Anna Gazarke, Ruth Daman, Emilie Beterstead, Lois Shock, Mary Jean Coressel, and Wilma Jean Hammon.
