Their selections were "Old Rugged Cross" and "In That Beautiful Land". Members of the quartet were Wayne Cross, W. C. Textor, L. H. Huff and Oliver Textor. Casketbearers were Roy Holliday, George Textor, Clarence Bowman, Walter Buenneke, Geo. Keeley and Francis Shirbroun, Interment was in the Coon Rapids cemetery. Warren Jackson Porter was born in Warren county, Illinois, September 22, 1863 and died April 21, 1942 at Coon Rapids, Iowa, reaching the age of 78 years, 4 months and 29 days. His boyhood and young manhood were spent in Illinois where he attended the country school and later attended Monmouth College at Monmouth, Ill. March 4, 1890 he was married to Ethel A. Harwood in Alta, Ill. and to this union three children were born. He famed in Illinois until 1902 when the family moved to Iowa. Later in the year 1913 he entered the government service as mail carrier at Walker, Iowa and came to Coon Rapids in 1925 where he continued to carry mail until 1932 when he retired. In early manhood he became a member of the Presbyterian church in Illinois and transferred to the Methodist when he came to Iowa. He generally sang in the choir, often was song leader in the Sunday school and taught a Sunday school class for many years and before becoming incapacitated, taught the men's class of the local church. Two years ago, March 3, 1940, the Porters celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary when all the children were present and many relatives and friends gathered in the home to wish them much happiness. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and three daughters: Florence, now Mrs. Thos. D. Arends of Little Rock, Iowa; Irma, now Mrs. Frank Hastings of Coon Rapids; and Miss Opal Porter of Sioux City. Also three grandchildren and a brother, Frank, of Kirkville, Mo., and host of friends.
