He was born March 11, 1925 at Columbus, the son of Charley Lewis, Jr. and Wilma Belle (Houdersheldt) Dickey. Warren graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1943, leaving immediately for service with the Army in World War II. He served in Europe with the 70th Division and was honored with the Silver Star for gallantry in action and a Purple Heart. Dickey age 85, of York, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Hearthstone in York. He was born March 11, 1925 at Columbus, the son of Charley Lewis, Jr. and Wilma Belle (Houdersheldt) Dickey. Warren graduated from Kramer High School in Columbus in 1943, leaving immediately for service with the Army in World War II. He served in Europe with the 70th Division and was honored with the Silver Star for gallantry in action and a Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Doane College and received his Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska. His life was spent in education, teaching in Harvard, Milligan, Fullerton and York where he worked for 22 years, first as High School Principal and then as High School Counselor. He worked for 40 years as a crop hail adjuster during the summer months. He was married to Emma Jean Springer January 24, 1951 at Exeter, Nebraska. They are the parents of a son and two daughters, the grandparents of eight and great grandparents of two. Warren’s life was marked by devotion to his family and his job. He loved gardening. He taught many kids to ride bikes, play ping pong and to mow in a straight line. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in York. Survivors include: his wife, Emma Jean; children, Leslie (Mark) Penner, Tom (Jacque) Dickey, and Janet ( Frank Burris) Dickey-Burris; grandchildren, Ben (Sarah) Penner, Jonathan (Lisa) Penner, Daniel Penner, Luke Penner, Erin Dickey, Laura (Derek) Kowalski, Leslie (Jaime) Davila, Mackenzie Burris; brother, Charley L. (Martha) Dickey; sister, Marian (Allen) Hanner; sister, Sandra Kniffin; brother-in-law Milo (Sylvia) Springer; and sister-in-law Carol (Gayle) Goering. Memorial services were held Thursday, September 2, 2010 the First United Methodist Church in York. Private family inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery in York.
