Read More	Thanks to contributor #47827518; Warren Riggs Dies Suddenly – Central City Nonpareil, April 1966 Warren Riggs, 84, recently of Central City, passed away suddenly at his home in Lewellen Sunday, April, 24. Mr. Riggs was born in Madison County, Iowa, October 13, 1881, the son of Henry and Mary Burgan Riggs. He resided in adjoining Clarke county until 1908. After one year in St. Edward he moved to Archer where he spent five years in the mercantile business. He was elected county clerk of Merrick county in 1914 and moved to Central City. During World War I, in addition to the duties of county clerk, he was a member of the Selective Service Board, Alien Property Custodian and member of the Home Guard. In 1920 he returned to the mercantile business in Archer, remaining there until 1926 when the family again moved to Central City. He served as Merrick county judge from 1926 until 1937. He then reestablished an abstract of title office which he maintained until he retired in May, 1963. He was also employed part time during this period as a sales representative of accounting systems for LeFebure Corporation of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. May 12, 1911, he was married to Ella E. Wegner at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Wegner at Archer. To this union four children were born: Naomi F. Clary, Lewellen; Orval W. Riggs, who passed away June 27, 1961, at his home in Albuquerque, N.M.; Rosemary Wilson and Rhoda Edlund, both of Lakewood, Colo. In 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Riggs celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Riggs was a lifetime churchgoer and a member of the Methodist church for over 50 years, having filled various offices. Other survivors in addition to his widow and daughters are his brother John of Superior, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Vern and Orval and sister Ruby. Funeral services were held from the Solt & Byers Funeral Home Wednesday, April 27, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Walter Marshall officiating. Burial was in the Central City cemetery. Mrs. Walter Raecke, organist, accompanied Mrs. Ralph Zlomke, Mrs. Julius Schmaltz, Mrs. Loris Neal and Mrs. John Hruza. Pallbearers were Warren Wegner, Leland Wegner, Delbert Suck, Milton Suck, Dwaine Wegner, Harold Brandes. Honorary pallbearers were Julius Schmaltz, Vernon Baker, L. A. Erickson, Dr. B. L. Ross, Hubert Demel, George Retzlaff, Roy Stone, Ralph Zlomke and Erv Hesselgesser.
