He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Annie Kate Stockman Dorn. Read More	GREENWOOD SC - Watson L. Dorn, Sr., 92, of Greenwood, SC, passed away April 29, 2017 at National Health Care in Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Annie Kate Stockman Dorn. A devoted husband, father, brother, and son, he was born in Greenwood on July 13, 1924, the son of the late Thomas Elbert Dorn and Pearl Griffith Dorn. He was the tenth of ten children and the last surviving of his siblings. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Greenwood High alumnus, he graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1944 with a BS in political science, and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy where he served during World War II in combat in the South Pacific. He was the youngest of seven brothers that served in the Armed Forces during the war. After the war, he was assigned to the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, but resigned his commission as a Lieutenant (JG) to become campaign manager for his brother, Bryan Dorn in his 1946 election to the US Congress. He married September 6, 1947, and completed law school at USC, graduating with a Jurist Doctorate degree. Watson helped his brother Bryan in his 1948 bid for the US Senate, and then in 1950 in his election back to the US Congress. He joined a law practice with his first cousins, G. P. Callison and G. D. Bell, and continued to practice in Greenwood for over 60 years. He was active in the SC Bar Association and served as Chairman of the House of Delegates. Being very active in his community, he served on the School Board of Trustees for 21 years and as chairman for 12 years. He was a past president and member of the Kiwanis Club of Greenwood, and a member of the American Legion and past Post Commander. Watson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood where he served as deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed playing golf, gardening, reading good books, cooking on occasions, socializing with family and friends (especially telling stories), Greenwood High School football, American Legion baseball, and Carolina Gamecocks sports. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Watson is survived by his four children: Watson Lee Dorn, Jr. and wife Dee, Stephen Thomas Dorn and wife Mary Helen of Greenwood, Elbert Stockman Dorn and wife Betsy of Pawley’s Island, Milbre Kate Dorn Yuchmow and husband Phillip of Columbia; ten grandchildren, Watson Lee Dorn III (Alice), Lidie Dorn Collier, Jonathan Graves Dorn (Amanda), Stephanie Ann Dorn, Murray Elizabeth Dorn, Elbert Stockman Dorn, Jr., Milledge Coleman Dorn, Eloise Grace Dorn, Jonathan Watson Yuchmow, and Katelyn Eleanore Yuchmow; and eleven great-grandchildren.
