She is married to Danny Pittard and they have three children, Kimberly, Daniel, and Watt. Waverly was born on March 4th, 1926 in Buffalo Junction, Virginia. He left high school at the age of 17 to volunteer for the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in the Pacific theater in WWII as the youngest first sergeant in a B-29 bomber wing. After serving for 2+ years in the Pacific, he returned to Buffalo Junction and obtained his high school diploma. Initially, he started a photography studio and later a flooring company. Meanwhile, he married Peggy Love Crowder on September 12, 1953. She has been at his side as a devoted wife ever since. It was a career in the textile industry that gave him his greatest satisfaction for nearly 45 years. He started with Burlington Industries, and then in 1971, took a job with Levi Strauss & Co. He was with Levi Strauss for 26 years during which time he helped forge partnerships between textile mills and Levi Strauss that helped revolutionize garment production through the elimination of inefficient inventory, the use of new factory innovations, and the implementation of quality certification from start to finish. His colleagues said that he brought a sense of mutual trust to the industry that had never existed before. His work carried him all over the world, and he was greatly respected throughout the industry for his vision and integrity. Despite his world travels, his favorite times involved debating the problems of the world around the dinner table with his family, and returning to his hometown to expound upon his philosophy with some of his childhood friends. He also leaves behind a wonderful vegetable garden which will greatly miss his green thumb. He was preceded in death by his parents William Morton and Edna Oliver Watkins, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be 2PM Thursday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Chapel with Reverend Henry Lovelace officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the 2pm service beginning at 1pm. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery. Waverly was one of the original members of the Mecklenburg County Life Saving and Rescue Squad.
