Description	:	Wayne's parents were Grandfield pioneers. He was confirmed at Grandfield Lutheran Church and graduated from Sheyenne Public School. He attended NDSU, Minnesota Business College and Houston Business College. He was employed by the Clyde-Mallory Steamship Company in Houston and in March 1943 was inducted into the army from Harris County, Texas. His Air Force training took place at Miami Beach, FL and Fort Logan, CO. On 12 Oct 1943 Wayne went overseas where he was in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was discharged as a Sergeant from Fort Lewis, WA on 7 Nov 1945, having been awarded the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with nine battle stars (for engagements in New Guinea, Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines, Luzon, Central Pacific, Western Pacific, Eastern Mandated, Bismarck Archipelago, China), the Distinquished Unit Badge with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Presidential Unit Citation. Shortly after completion of his military career, he came back to Sheyenne and puchased Ostby Service Station from his father. He continued in this career throughout his life. His marriage to Geraldine Tweed was on 14 Mar 1948. They were married in Cooperstown. The couple had three children: a stillborn son, Jane Ostby Mrs. James Cudworth and Joan Ostby Mrs. Jerry Cudworth.
