Description	:	Wayne "Bub" Penny, Jr., age 72 of Sargent, passed away peacefully at his home Nov. 26, 2015. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent, with Wayne Hasselquist officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sargent. Bub was born June 29, 1943, to Wayne D. and Marjorie F. (Swick) Penny in Sargent. He was raised in Sargent and graduated with the class of 1962. Read More	Wayne "Bub" Penny, Jr., age 72 of Sargent, passed away peacefully at his home Nov. 26, 2015. Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Rhoad Funeral Home in Sargent, with Wayne Hasselquist officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Sargent. Bub was born June 29, 1943, to Wayne D. and Marjorie F. (Swick) Penny in Sargent. He was raised in Sargent and graduated with the class of 1962. Following graduation he worked in construction until entering the U.S. Navy in February of 1964. Wayne spent one year in Radar School, two years on the Alfred E. Cunningham DD and a year in Viet Nam on patrol boats (PBR's). He was a proud member of the River Rats and kept in contact with many of his comrades in arms. Following his service he spent 33 years working for Hesston Corp. in Kansas, as a machine operator and later as a shift foreman. He resided in Newton, Kan., during those years and moved to Sargent after retirement in 2009. Over the years he enjoyed buckskinning, cowboy shoots and spent 15 years shooting his cannon at Fort Kearney in Kearney, Nebraska. He was also an avid car collector and loved working on the old cars. He belonged to various organizations and was a member of the Nebraska Rod & Custom Association. He is survived by two sisters, Rosemary (Bob) Nelson of Elyria, and Linda (Vernon) Erikson of Kearney; two brothers, Colin (Cherie) Penny of Sargent, and Leon (Linda) Penny of Tryon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and step-mother, Catherine (Phelps) Penny. His quick smile and teasing personality will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends in Kansas and Nebraska. Published in Custer County Chief on Dec. 10, 2015
