Read More	Wayne Dean Hedges Mar 28, 2017 On Sunday morning March 19, 2017, Wayne Dean Hedges passed on to his next adventure, which most likely entails an ATV ride. His love of the great outdoors whether he was riding his horse in the mountains in Montana or riding his razor in the desert in Arizona, it kept him moving all the time. He was not one to sit still at any point in his life, so although it was heartbreaking to see him go after such a short illness, it was characteristic of his nature to know that being sick for any length of time was not an option. Wayne and his twin, Dwayne, were born at home in Park City, on Aug. 4, 1934, to Edson and Margaret (Southworth) Hedges. His twin died at five months of age, of pneumonia. He attended grade school and graduated from high school in Park City. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician and served on the USS Shangri-la. After his honorable discharge, he started his long and loyal career with the phone company called Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph. Climbing poles was the starting point and it’s said that he helped bring phone service to many areas of western Montana. He was a natural born engineer right down to the pocket protector and started his engineering career in the Billings office working his way up the management chain over the years. Talk about not sitting still, he went on to work after his early retirement in 1987 off and on over the years as an independent contractor for the phone company until age 80. Even then he still needed to be busy and helped with the building of his daughter’s cabin on the Dearborn River, even assisting with installing a metal roof. His pole climbing skills were still intact as he claimed he was a “mountain goat.” Wayne set the bar high for himself and his loved ones. He wasn’t shy about giving corrective feedback but everyone knew he always had their backs. He married Marjorie Lambrecht in 1958. Wayne married Cheryl Osterman on June 27, 1980 and together they shared 37 years of never ending adventure. Wayne is survived by his wife Cheryl; children, Janet (Art), Randy (Sandra), Rick (Angel), Tim (Cathy), Bryan, Brad (Karmen); 10 grandchildren, three and a half great-grandchildren; siblings Don (Alma), Gary (Peggy), Judy (Stan), Carol (Doug) along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother. He served on numerous boards and was a member of the American Legion and the IBEW. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Laurel. Internment with military honors will be held at the Park City Cemetery. A reception for friends and family will follow at the Park City Civic Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Special K Ranch or the charity of your choice.
