McClintock, 95, passed away early Sunday morning, 23 March 2008 at the Council Grove Healthcare Center. Wayne was born 23 January 1913, the second son of Archie and Minnie (Rader) McClintock. He attended grade school at Center View, District 89, and graduated high school with the class of 1932, along with his younger brother, Les. He first became a member of Pleasant Ridge Christian Church, transferring when he moved to town to Council Grove Christian where he served as an elder for many years. His last membership was with Community Christian. In 1938, Wayne and his brother, Les, operated the Skelly Station at the corner of East Main and Union, and brother, Curren, drove the tank wagon. They had their first Garage in the building just east of the bridge. Wayne was inducted into the Army in March of 1942. As a Radar Operator, he served as Sgt., in the 599th Signal Air Warning Battalion in the Pacific Theater and earned four Service Medals. He received his discharge in Dec. 1945 and soon he and Les began the building for McClintock Motors, which was erected in the 800 block of West Main. They first had the Dodge-Plymouth dealership, followed by the Ford dealership when McConnell Motors retired. This was sold in 1967 and MHM Corporation purchased Council Grove Gas and Service, and then added Americus Gas Company. An active member of the community, he served on the School Board and the City Council and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of the Morris County Historical Society and was honored for his long service in looking after the Post Office Oak House and Seth Hays home, checking them at least twice a week to be sure the heating, cooling and plumbing were functioning properly, among other things. At the 2004 Wah-Shun-Gah days he and others of the family were honored as Grand Marshals of the Parade. Gardening and “Tinkering” were pastimes he enjoyed. He could fix practically anything, making a new part if he couldn’t find one. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.L. McClintock, and his brother, Curren McClintock. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, a son, David W. McClintock of Wichita, daughters Lynda Ruth McClintock of Manhattan, Carol Gonzolas, Council Grove, Margaret Van Allen, Frisco, Texas, and Nancy Umholtz of Valley Center, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his brother, Les McClintock, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 28, 2008, at the Community Christian Church, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. McClintock will lie in state from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Thursday at the Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel in Council Grove. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.
