Description	:	Wayne Eldon Rohlwing, age 89, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Herman H. and Wanda Augusta Amelia (Hilmer) Rohlwing on September 3, 1928, in rural Clarksville. Wayne was baptized on September 30, 1928, and confirmed in April 1944. He graduated as salutatorian from Clarksville High School in 1946. Read More	Wayne Eldon Rohlwing, age 89, of Clarksville, Iowa, was born the son of Herman H. and Wanda Augusta Amelia (Hilmer) Rohlwing on September 3, 1928, in rural Clarksville. Wayne was baptized on September 30, 1928, and confirmed in April 1944. He graduated as salutatorian from Clarksville High School in 1946. The day after his graduation from high school, Wayne began working at Iowa State Bank in Clarksville as a bookkeeper and janitor. In January 1962, he was offered the position of chief executive officer. During his early years at the bank, Wayne attended summer sessions at the School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin. He also attended the Agriculture Credit School at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. On June 18, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage with Lavola Jean Swick at the First United Church of Christ Pleasant Valley in rural Clarksville. Wayne was employed at Iowa State Bank until he retired in 1986. He served on the boards for the Bank, Clarksville Schools, Nursing Home, Butler County Fair and Waverly Hospital. He was a founding member and first vice president and later president of C.A.R.D. Wayne was also a member of Lion’s Club, Commercial Club, Clarksville Pioneer Days Committee Clarksville Improvement Corporation and Elks Club. He was elected to Butler County Hall of Fame in 1990. After his retirement, Wayne began working for Schwartz Funeral Home which later became Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home. Wayne was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville where he served as the church treasurer and on the church council. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, collecting stamps and coins. He loved to host parties, especially the “Wayne’s Breakfast in the Backyard”. He was an avid Hawkeye and Cubs fan. Wayne and Lavola enjoyed traveling through all the 50 states and also overseas. Wayne died Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home in Clarksville. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents. Wayne is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lavola; two sons, Alan Rohlwing, and Paul (Jill Scott); two daughters, Rebecca (Henry) Vasey, and Lori Rohlwing (Chris Yoakum); ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 26, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319)278-4245, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to Clarksville Community School, Clarksville Library, C.A.R.D. or St. John Lutheran Church.
