He was born Feb. 26, 1919, north of Callaway at the Witthuhn Homestead to William G. Witthuhn and Minnie G. Brummet Witthuhn. Wayne was the fourth of 15 children. He shared his days of growing up with seven brothers and seven sisters. Wayne grew up on the farm where he was born. His first job, at a very young age, was hauling manure and taking care of sheep for 50 cents a day. He attended school at the Crossroads and Callaway. After returning home from he service, Wayne continued to farm. He met Nadine Ellison and united with her in marriage Jan. 6, 1950. This happy union would be blessed with four boys and one daughter, Diane, who passed away with leukemia at the age of three. Wayne is survived by sons, Jerry (Beverly) of Omaha, Bradley (Coeleen) of Callaway, Eric (Kyndra) of Omaha, and Gregory of Omaha; five grandchildren, Jasen and Brandy of Omaha, Jeremy of Denver, Colo., Kimberly and Levi of Callaway; six great-grandchildren, Kamron and Brianna Mowrey, Justin and Lexis Witthuhn, and William, Julia and Jesse Witthuhn; one sister, June (Gene) Rodine of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three brothers, Benahr (Virginia) of Kearney, Elmo (Marjorie) of Callaway, and Jack (Betty) Greer of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, Diane, grandson Jered, his parents, brothers, Harold, Bill, Donald and Joseph, and sisters, Estyle, Emelie, Ruth, Winifred, Luretta and Bernadine.
