He was born on April 3, 1924, in Bellevue, son of Ferdinand and Adelheid (Yeager) Weyhgandt. He married Mary Ehrler on Feb. 14, 1954, at United Methodist Church, Elizabeth, Ill.; she preceded him in death in July 2006. Wayne received his education in Bellevue. Upon graduation, he proudly served his country in World War II. Wayne was a lifelong, extremely active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellevue, a past president of the Church Council and a member of the church choir since 1938. He retired from the Corps of Engineers, Lock & Dam No. 12 in Bellevue, in 1984. He enjoyed not only playing music, but listening to it as well. He loved reading westerns and watching his big screen TV. He made a living (on the side) by repairing small engines. He was a member of the American Legion Post 273, the Antique Automobile Club of America and the 533rd Engineer Special Brigade. The last several years of his life, he enjoyed traveling on an annual vacation with his wife and two daughters. Wayne will be deeply missed by his daughters, Jayne (Fred) Schaeffer, of Mount Gretna, Pa., and Jean (Robert) Wand, of Galena, Ill.; his nieces and nephews and their families and his many friends in Bellevue. He also was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Donald, Lester and Gerald; and his sister, Ruth.
