Wayne Henry Michlitsch was born April 23, 1939, at Webster, S.D., to Henry F. and Ethel (Samson) Michlitsch. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Webster High School in 1957. He belonged to the National Guard for six years. On Nov. 26, 1959, he married Carol Lee Schlekewy at Eden. They lived in Minneapolis before moving to Sioux City, Iowa, where Wayne attended barber college. In 1962, Wayne purchased "Wayne's Place" in Eden, and operated it for 14 years. Wayne sold the business in 1976 and went to work at Horton Industries in Britton for the next 20 years. He worked for Dakotah in Webster and later as a certified flag-man. Wayne was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Eden, was active in the Knights of Columbus, and served two years as Grand Knight. He was a member of the Eden Volunteer Fire Department, was active in the Right to Life, and Relay for Life. Wayne loved being outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed tinkering with craft projects, and was also willing to make a sign for worthwhile projects or organizations. Above all else, Wayne enjoyed family. Wayne died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, at the Lake Area Hospital in Webster, at the age of 68. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 47 years, Carol Lee Michlitsch, Eden; four children: Tammie (Doug) Steiner, Eden, Jackie (Craig) Schmidt, Roslyn, S.D., Danny (Grace) Michlitsch, Eden, Vickie (Terry) Olson, Lino Lakes, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his mother, Ethel Michlitsch, Langford, S.D.; and a brother, Lyle (JoAnn) Michlitsch, Langford.
