Wayne Laurel Vietor was born on the Vietor family farm in Turner County, SD, on Jan. 5, 1928, the son of Pete P. and Elsie (Otten) Vietor. He attended rural school, Hurley High School, and grew up there. He then served in the US Army during the occupation of Japan following World War II. On Feb. 12, 1949, he was united in marriage to Arlis Kromminga at her parental home near Chancellor. They lived their entire married life southwest of Lennox. During most of that time he was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad. Since his retirement from the railroad, he has served in a number of capacities with other firms in Sioux Falls and Lennox, remaining active until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his father on Jan. 27, 1983; his mother on Oct. 29, 1990; one son, Wallace "Wally" Vietor on Apr. 3, 1989; and one brother: LuVerne Vietor on May 18, 1972. Grateful for having shared his life are his widow, Arlis; one son and his wife, Douglas and Jenny Vietor of Lennox; three daughters and their husbands: Bonnie and Rich Wirkus of Lennox, Peggy and Paul Bader of Parkston, Julie and Mark Bendt of Baltic; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Vietor, of Lennox; ten grandchildren; one brother, Marlyn Vietor and his wife, Mary of Sioux Falls; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Marcene Kromminga of Sioux Falls.
