Description	:	Wayne LeRoy "Buddy" Houska was born February 4, 1926 on the family farm to John and Carrie (Benda) Houska. He attended the Bairey Country School graduating as salutatorian and then Pukwana High School in 1943 graduation with a scholarship to attend the college of his choice. He returned to the family farm as his career raising cattle, hogs, and chickens. On February 6, 1960, Wayne was united in marriage to Dorothy Rohrback at Reliance. Read More	Wayne LeRoy "Buddy" Houska was born February 4, 1926 on the family farm to John and Carrie (Benda) Houska. He attended the Bairey Country School graduating as salutatorian and then Pukwana High School in 1943 graduation with a scholarship to attend the college of his choice. He returned to the family farm as his career raising cattle, hogs, and chickens. On February 6, 1960, Wayne was united in marriage to Dorothy Rohrback at Reliance. To this union, three children were born: Carmen, Kevin, and Roxanne. His five grandsons were his pride and joy. For many years, he cared for his elderly parents. Wayne served on the Ola Township Board for many years. He was a very avid sports fan and his favorite team was the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed bowling, baseball, and horseshoe, playing cards, and doing crossword puzzles. Wayne loved checking on his crops to see how they were doing and especially liked walking through the corn fields. Wayne passed away on February 16, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD at the age of 86 years. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 52 years Dorothy Houska of Pukwana; three children Carmen Huffman and Tim of Kadoka, Kevin Houska and Paulette of Pukwana, and Roxanne Houska and fiancé Wayne Wingert of Pukwana; and five grandsons Curtis Huffman and Casey, Keith Huffman, Brandon, Jared, and Trevor Houska. Preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters Vivian Mlady and Merle Rindels; two brothers Wilmer Houska and Ivan Houska, three brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, an infant sister Amy, three nephews, and two nieces. Funeral services for Wayne L. "Buddy" Houska, 86, of Pukwana, will be Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain with burial in the Riverview Cemetery at Chamberlain.
