Description	:	Wayne Richard Kangas of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, on December 17, 1994 following a brief illness. Wayne was born on August 10, 1916 at Benalto, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm at Hespero and attended school at Daisy Nook. After working around Central Alberta, Wayne moved to Vancouver where he worked in the shipyards. He trained as a Bren Gunner, and was posted... Read More	Wayne Richard Kangas of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, on December 17, 1994 following a brief illness. Wayne was born on August 10, 1916 at Benalto, Alberta. He grew up on the family farm at Hespero and attended school at Daisy Nook. After working around Central Alberta, Wayne moved to Vancouver where he worked in the shipyards. In 1942, he was united in marriage to Ann Docken. In 1943, Wayne enlisted in the Armed Forces and served with the second Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment. He trained as a Bren Gunner, and was posted to Alberni, Vancouver, Vernon, Terrace, B.C. and Wainwright, Alberta. He obtained a Miners leave and went to Alexo, in the Alberta Foothills, near Nordegg. He worked for a brief time underground, and then on the hoist. While working, Wayne studied for and obtained his 3rd Class Power Engineering ticket through S.A.l.T. and was Chief Engineer when the mine closed in 1955. At this time the family moved to Red Deer where Wayne was employed by the Central Alberta Dairy Pool (Alpha), working there for twenty one years, retiring as Chief Engineer. During 1976 and 1977 he worked as Chief Engineer at Uncle Bens Brewery. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty two years, Ann; his son, Wayne; his daughter, Sharon (Alan) Cooper; his five precious grandchildren, Margaret, Katherine, and Paul Kangas and Shara and Lyndsay Cooper; he also leaves to mourn his passing two sisters, Hilja (Ike) Raappana of California V CLIPPED FROM Canada Alberta Red Deer Red Deer Advocate 199
