Read More	Wayne Wilbur Kirmis passed away at Heritage Living Center, Park Rapids, MN on December 20, 2020 due to natural causes. He was 94 years old and had recently recovered from the COVID-19 virus. Wayne Wilbur Kirmis was born on September 18, 1926 in Geneseo, ND, the first child of five and the only son of Rufus and Adelia Kirmis. He attended schools in Medberry, Geneseo, and Edgeley, ND. He graduated from Edgeley High School in 1944. In 1944, Wayne entered the Army and was discharged in 1946. He attended Dakota Business College and, after finishing, went to work at the Bison Hotel in Fargo. Following his tenure at the Bison Hotel, he went into the restaurant business and owned and/or managed restaurants in Detroit Lakes, Grand Forks, Moorhead, and Fargo. Wayne married Betty Thompson in 1955. Betty passed away in 1976. In 1993, Wayne married Pearl Courneya. Pearl passed away in 2018. Wayne spent much of his formative years hunting and trapping fur-bearing animals in North Dakota. In the summer of 1970, Wayne purchased lake property near Park Rapids on Big Stony Lake where he spent many summers. In 1975, Wayne moved a Northern Pacific Railroad Caboose onto his lake property which served as his seasonal home for many summers. Over the years, he enjoyed gardening, collecting antiques, and entertaining friends and family at the lake. He is survived by children Robert (Denise) Hopkins, MN, and Joe (Deirdre) Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren Betsy Kirmis (Minneapolis, MN), Sam Kirmis (Denver, CO), Sean Kirmis (Savannah) and Ryan Kirmis (Gilbert, AZ), sisters Kathryn Medellin (Park Rapids, MN), JoAnne (Bob) Hill (St. Paul, MN), and Bickey (Frank) Bender (Park Rapids, MN), Brother-in-law Ed Poitras (Park Rapids, MN) and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Rufus and Adelia, sister Genell, brother- in-law William Medellin, and wives Betty Thompson and Pearl Courneya.
