Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Pastor Gertie Nickols will officiate. Casket bearers will be Eugene Castle, Rick Castle, Randy Castle, Ron Castle, Steve Rahlf, Craig Theobald and Gary Theobald. "Barney" Barnhart, 92, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Geo. M. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 8, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. with Masonic Rites at 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Weldon Elliott Barnhart was born on December 23, 1920 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Walter and Gertrude (Gertenbach) Barnhart. On May 29, 1949 Barney was united in marriage to Gloria G. Rahlf in Muscatine, Iowa. Barney had farmed all his life and also worked for Thatcher Plastics from 1965-1983. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the High Prairie United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling, spending winters in Texas for 26 years, camping and spending time with his family and his cat named ‘Daug'. Barney was a man of independent nature, continuing to mow five acres and doing as many farm chores as he still could. Barney will be deeply missed by his son, Clifton Barnhart of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Travis Parent and fiancée, Gina Lundt of Muscatine, Andrea Arlen and husband, Tom of Bellevue and Danielle Reimers of Muscatine; four great grandchildren, Xaiver and Dominick Parent and Kylie and Everett Arlen; and his sisters, Phyllis Rahlf and husband, Bud of Muscatine, Gladys Castle and husband, Dick of Letts, Jean Theobald and husband, Herman of Muscatine and Jo Ann Nelson, also of Muscatine. Barney was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his daughter, Michelle Barnhart; brothers, Wayne and Forrest; and sister, Marilyn.
