Description	:	Wellington Briley, a C.& N.W. brakeman, was instantly killed at Council Bluffs at 6:52 o'clock yesterday evening. The accident occurred at the WF tower in the Council Bluffs yards. The deceased was about twenty eight years of age and leaves a wife, formerly Miss Bertha Yegge, a daughter of J.K. Yegge of this city. His father and one brother reside in the city. The deceased was a model young man and his premature death is most regrettable. In out next issue we will give a complete obituary. In our last issue we gave an account of the sad death of Wellington W. Briley which occurred at Council Bluffs Thursday evening of last week, when the unfortunate young man was run over and instantly killed in the Northwestern yards at that place. The remains were brought to this city on No. 4 Saturday noon and the funeral held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon from his late residence, 409 Benton street, Rev. Father Lenehan officiated. The remains were laid to rest in East Linwood. The funeral was one of the largest ever held in the city and attended by the following orders: B. or R.R., Knights and Ladies of Security, B. of L.F., B. of R.C. and B. of L.E. the first two of which he was a member. The pall bearers were Mesars, E.R. Booth, A.A. Dayle, J.W. Hatfield, E.A. Johnson, W.H. Waldron and David Blythe. Wellington W. Briley was born May 5, 1873, near Ontario in Story county. When a boy of about fourteen years of age he removed with his parents to this city and attended the public and high schools of this city. The writer of this article was a member of the same class and without hesitation can say that there was none more studious, honest or straightforward. The deceased lived in Chicago for a while during the world's fair. Returning to this city he entered the service of the Northwestern as a brakeman. On October 12, 1898, he was married to Miss Bertha Yegge of this city, who is left to mourn his untimely death. His father Ira W. Briley, one brother, Louis, and two sisters, Mrs. E.Vest of Goldfield, and Mrs. T.W. Guy of this city, also survive. The grief stricken wide and relatives have the sympathy of all in their hour of sorrow. Boone County Democrat May 1901
