Description	:	Huntingdon Herald-Dispatch 1 July 2005 WELTE E. MAYS, 75, of Chesapeake, Ohio, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born May 5, 1930, in Huntington and grew up in Guyandotte. He then resided in Chesapeake, Ohio for well over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Zena Brown Mays; one sister, Ramona Mays; two brothers, Ivan and Jim Mays; and a grandson, James Michael Burns. He was born May 5, 1930, in Huntington and grew up in Guyandotte. He then resided in Chesapeake, Ohio for well over 40 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva and Zena Brown Mays; one sister, Ramona Mays; two brothers, Ivan and Jim Mays; and a grandson, James Michael Burns. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathleen Mays; eight daughters; two sisters; one brother; a special brother-in-law; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was loved by all. He was a retired barber and was a veteran of the Korean War in which he served the U.S. Army proudly. He was listed as 51 Tank Battalion Co. 5th Cavalry Regiment Armor Division. He received several medals and certificates for his dedication to our country. The Army Occupation Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Korean Service Medal were among the few. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 9738 in Guyandotte where he served on the honor guard which he loved doing so much. He participated in 352 funeral services with the honor guard. He was a very proud man and was loved by all. He will be sadly missed. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel by the Rev. Craig Coster. Burial will be in the Brown Cemetery, Milton. VFW Post #9738 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville.
