Wendelin was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Linton, N.D., to Melchior and Theresia (Schneider) Wagner. Wendelin was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Linton, N.D., to Melchior and Theresia (Schneider) Wagner. He grew up in the Linton area, where he met his future wife, Phyllis (Kramer), while at a dance in Strasburg, N.D. Wendelin and Phyllis were married Oct. 22, 1945. They farmed in the Linton area until 1955 when they moved to Billings. Wendelin worked as a shipping clerk at Pierce Packing Company until retiring in 1984. They had three children: Donna Braun of Billings, Dianne Ostermiller (Ken) of Bozeman, and Calvin (Trudy) of Minnetonka, Minn. He loved to camp and fish and enjoyed teaching his grandsons to fish. He and Phyllis loved spending time with their family, playing cards, dancing and socializing with friends. Dad loved to polka and he and Mom were a delight to watch. In March 2004, they moved to Highgate Senior Living, where he resided until his death. He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa. His passing leaves a tremendous void in all of our lives. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his three children; three grandsons, Jeffrey Braun (Teri) of Las Vegas, Randy Braun (Buffy) of Belgrade and Brandon Ostermiller of Bozeman; as well as great-granddaughters, Charlotte and Sonora Ostermiller, who always brought a twinkle to his eye and a smile to his face. He is also survived by two sisters, Leona (Edward) Burcham of Mount Airy, N.C., and Shirley Grover of Sheridan, Wyo.; and one brother, Aloyes (Irene) of Moorhead, Minn.; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Bernice and Lorraine Wagner, Agatha Jundt, Phyllis Mauhl and Angie Mosset. A vigil service will be held Wednesday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. A funeral mass for Wendelin will be held Thursday, March 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Pius X Church. Committal services will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Church, Rocky Mountain Hospice or a charity of your choice.
