He was born January 3, 1943 to James and Jeanette (Muck) Gaston in Beloit, Kansas. After attending Downs Public School, he and his wife Carol (Patterson) Gaston ran the Salina Beauty Academy for several years, they later moved to Houston, TX in 1970 and had a wholesale seafood business. Read More	Wendell O. Gaston, 68, departed this good earth on Friday, September 16, 2011 at his home in Downs, Kansas. He was born January 3, 1943 to James and Jeanette (Muck) Gaston in Beloit, Kansas. After attending Downs Public School, he and his wife Carol (Patterson) Gaston ran the Salina Beauty Academy for several years, they later moved to Houston, TX in 1970 and had a wholesale seafood business. They then moved to Salina, KS where Wendell was the general manager for Russell's Restaurant for fifteen years. Wendell then moved to California where he was the general manager for an Italian Restaurant for four years, then moving to Colorado where he became involved in the casino business. Wendell was a poker/blackjack pit boss and instructor. He then moved to Tucson where he was the manager at an Indian casino for a while until he suffered a heart attack prompting him to move back to Downs where he took care of his father and aunt. While Wendell was living in Downs he operated the Railroad Inn for about four years but after having a second heart attack, it forced him to retire. Wendell was an avid fisherman, he loved to fish for catfish in the Lake Waconda and the Solomon River. Wendell leaves behind a daughter, Renee Lynette Gaston of Salina [and other descendents]. Wendell had a GREAT sense of humor and wanted to have the last word after he passed posted on his obituary: "See, I Told You I Was Sick". A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Downs, KS. There will not be any public visitation, the family has chosen cremation. Inurnment will be in the Downs City Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name in care of the funeral chapel.
