He was born in Enon, Ohio, on April 11, 1920, the son of Ostile and Ida Mae (Hines) Augustus. Wendell Paul "Shorty" Augustus, 71, of 1956 Newlove Road, South Charleston, Ohio, died Saturday, February 1, 1992, at 10:35 pm in Mercy Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was born in Enon, Ohio, on April 11, 1920, the son of Ostile and Ida Mae (Hines) Augustus. He had been a life long area resident and he played on the All-Star team at Enon High School when Enon advanced to the State Runner-Up in 1937 and 1938. He had worked as a machinist for 30 years for Speco Corporation, retiring on January 1, 1982. He had also farmed for several years in the Enon and South Charleston area. Survivors include his wife, Ruth J (Haemmerle) Augustus, whom he married on March 16, 1963; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Paul Menda of South Vienna, Pamela and Joe Swaney of LaPorte, Texas; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janice of Catawba, Dick and Linda of Pitchin, Mike and Cathy of Bellefontaine, Jim and Linda of Springfield; two step-daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Tom McClintock of South Vienna, Sue and Bill Tincher of Springfield, and one step-son William Priest of Tipp City; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Mary Augustus of Springfield. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren eight great-grandchildren several brothers and sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Grace (Baker) Augustus in 1961, and a son, Randy. Friends may call at the Ingling-Williams Funeral Home South Charleston Chapel on Wednesday from 2 pm until 4 pm, and from 6 pm until 8 pm. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 pm at the First Christian Church with Rev David Cordrey and Rev Alden Towberman officiating Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery.
