Description	:	WENDELL RAYMOND CHRISTENSEN was born July 22, 1933, in Lyons, Nebraska, to Raymond and Elva (Crosby) Christensen. He passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 79 years. Wendell attended school in Lyons. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Thule, Greenland. He was honorably discharged in November 1953. Read More	WENDELL RAYMOND CHRISTENSEN was born July 22, 1933, in Lyons, Nebraska, to Raymond and Elva (Crosby) Christensen. He passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, at the age of 79 years. Wendell attended school in Lyons. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Thule, Greenland. He was honorably discharged in November 1953. After a few years in Los Angeles, California, driving for Blue Diamond Redimix, they returned to Nebraska and farmed near Decatur. On January 1, 1953, he married Earlene Hightree at her parent's home in rural Decatur. They raised three daughters, Wendy, Vicki and Teresa. Wendell was a member of VFW Post No. 7998, past member of Masonic Lodge No. 88 and served as a volunteer Fireman in Decatur. Along with farming, Wendell was a carpenter, mechanic, heavy machinery operator, and truck driver. There was not much he could not fix. Wendell and Earlene spent many Saturday nights in their early married years with friends at dances. They always had time for a cup of coffee with friends and family that would stop by. He enjoyed camping, fishing & playing cards. Wendell was a wonderful Dad. He taught his children the value of hard work and honesty. He was involved with many 4-H projects of his daughters and they enjoyed camping vacations, one most memorable was to the Black Hills. Wendell was a special Grandpa to his grandkids. He spent time outdoors playing with them, giving them rides on the tractors and mower. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Delbert and David; sister, Dorthea Beck. Survivors include his wife, Earlene of Decatur; daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Scott Phillips of Lyons, Vicki and Butch Nice of Hill City, SD, Teresa and Terry Vanderlinden of Hastings, MN; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Sandra Schultz of Wisner, NE; nephews and nieces and a host of friends. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, October 26, 2012, 2:00 pm at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. BURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Robert Klase-Rogers VFW Post No. 7998 and American Legion Rogers-Crum Post No. 215.
