Wendy was the daughter of the late Dr. Donald F. Miller and Florence Miller. She was born Aug. 27, 1954, in Williamsburg, where she lived until graduating from Williamsburg Community High School in 1973. Wendy was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and a graduate of Iowa State University. As a resident of Ames, she began her career in social work with Mainstream Living in 1978. After six years with Mainstream, Wendy took a position with Central Iowa Mental Health, now known as The Richmond Center, in September 1984. She worked there until the time of her death and was coordinator of the Community Support Program. Wendy was involved in numerous community service organizations. She was very active in Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Planned Parenthood, Emergency Residence Project and volunteered at the Ames Animal Shelter. She was recently honored at the Mental Health Coalition Conference, being presented with the Award of Excellence from the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Donald F. Miller. She is survived by her mother, Florence Miller of Williamsburg; four brothers, Wayne of Naperville, Ill., Dr. Roger of Toledo, Ohio, Denny of Dubuque and Richard of Williamsburg; three nephews; and six nieces. Wendy was a lover of horses, cats, people and life. She brought joy to everyone she knew. She is loved and will be missed by all. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Chapter of the American Cancer Society or the Ames Animal Shelter.
