Wenzel John (Jim) Ortmeier was born July 4, 1938, to Wenzel F. and Rose Marie (Wisnieski) Ortmeier on a farm four miles west of a West Point. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey, west of West Point. He attended elementary at St. Boniface Catholic Church at Monterey and graduated high school from Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point in 1956. He was involved in 4-H and FHA. He attended college courses at Norfolk Jr. College and Northwest Tech Community College in Norfolk. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958 as a clerk and Air Transportation Specialist. He married Clairetta Mae Uher at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge on April 23, 1960. He worked for Rivett Lumber at West Point and also at Albion until becoming general manager of the Farmers Cooperative in West Point, until 1979. In 1979, he became the state sales manager for Triple F Feeds until 1983. In 1983, he worked for Smith-McGill-Robertson-Nelson in real estate sales and auction clerking. He also did radio broadcasting with Joe McGill for KHUB. In 1985 he graduated from Missouri Auction School and became a real estate broker and auctioneer with SMRN and in 1987 started Ortmeier and Associates auction and Real Estate. From 2000 to the present he was a real estate broker with Ortmeier and Associates in West Point. He is a member of St. Mary's Building Committee and Central Catholic School Board. He also served St. Michael's Cemetery Board. He was a third and Fourth Degree Knight and past officer of the Cuming County Ag Society and was currently president of the Cuming County Fair Foundation Board. He was a member of the West Point Chamber of Commerce since 1964 and served on the board as president. Once memberships include past officer and past member of the West Point Jaycees, past 4-H leader of the Cuming County Cutters, president and board member of West Point Industrial Foundation, board member and officer of the Farmers Regional Coop and Land-O-Lakes, member and past president of Lewis & Clark Realtors Board, Jim has served on the advisory committee of the Northeast Community College Agri-Business Council and the St. Francis Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Survivors include his wife, Clairetta of West Point; his sons Todd J. Ortmeier of Nashville, TN, Troy & Kristy Ortmeier of West Point; three grandchildren; brothers and sisters Betty and David Kreikemeier of Fort Collins, CO, Jeanie and Don McCarthy of Spaulding, Nancy & David Boyle of Fort Collins, CO, Judy and Dan Sindelar of Omaha, Tom & Jane Ortmeier of Fort Collins, CO, Dan Ortmeier of Denver, CO, Mary Ann & Chuck Hackenmiller, and Randy & LuAnn Ortmeier of West Point.
