Dak. Obituary Werner Assmus was born November 11, 1911, to Jacob and Bertha Assmus of Stickney. He passed away April 25, 1980, at the Chamberlain hospital. He was baptized into the Lutheran church on Jan. 28, 1912, and was confirmed Sept. 28, 1924. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, except for nine years as a member of Blooming Valley congregation, where he also served on the council. He attended school at Stickney and attended Wartburg College at Waverly, Iowa. He worked in the Post Office as a clerk in the early 1930's and later became a rural mail carrier. For years he was a volunteer fireman and was also a fire chief for several years. He was a member of the V.F.W., and also the American legion. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946, receiving an honorable discharge. He then served as mail carrier until 1975. After 38 years he retired from the postal service. He also worked part-time at the Stickney Argus. On January 13, 1970, he was united in marriage to May Gruenwald Schrank. He is survived by his wife, May; stepson, Don and his wife Edna, of Armour; seven step-grand children, Rodney Schrank, Sheridan, Wyo., Ginger Schrank Hertz and husband, Dan, Menno, Michael Schrank and wife, Jodi, Springfield, Donald Schrank, Gillette, Wyo., and Rennie Schrank, Armour. Also surviving are two brothers, Helmuth and wife, Marie, and Victor and wife, Bernita, all of Stickney; and one cousin considered as a sister, Betty Parks and her husband, Frank, of Johnstown, Colo; and a host of friends and other relatives.
