He is survived by a wife and five children." "The Cambridge City (IN) Tribune, Thursday, Sep. 6, 1917 Wert W. Ashbaugh, son of William Jefferson and Margaret Goddard Ashbaugh, was born in Mercer county, Ill., on March 10, 1878. He was the third child of a family of ten children, all the rest of whom survive him, and all except one, Mrs. Edward Kinsinger of Jacksonburg, with the father and mother are residents of Pennsylvania. His advantages of the public school were limited, but by close observation he gained a good practical education. He was a member of Walnut Level lodge, I.O.O.F., of East Germantown. On October 21, 1898, he was married to Ella J. Sarber. Five children blessed this union--Floyd, Marjorie, Claude, Fern and Ivan, all of whom are living to feel the loss of a devoted father, who was always planning some comfort for his family. The married life was indeed a happy one. His family and his home were to him a shrine whereon he lay the incense of a husband's and father's devotion and to which his friends were so gladly welcomed, and to all his friends he gave untiringly of his services in their sorrows or their needs. On August 30, 1917, at the age of 39 years, 5 months and 20 days, he lay aside all earthly suffering and cares, and answered God's summons to come unto Him, telling his companions that he was ready to go. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Lutheran church by Rev. McCormick assisted by Rev. Hanes and a local choir. The Odd Fellows had charge of the burial in the adjoining cemetery. There was a large attendance and every evidence of esteem and respect."
