He was born Jan. 10, 1910 at Walnut, to John A. and Myra Friend Hess. He attended schools at Walnut. He came to Pittsburg in 1928 and attended Pittsburg State University. He lived in the community most of his life. He married Arleen Hunter on June 17, 1937 at Walnut. She preceded him in death on May 26, 1984. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a former president of the National Bank of Pittsburg and was on the board of directors. He also served on the board of directors of Bank IV. He was a member of the First United Methodist church, the Benjamin A. Fuller Post No. 64 of the American Legion, a charter member of the Crestwood Country Club, the Kiwanis Club, the Pittsburg State University Foundation, and the Elks Lodge No. 412. Survivors include two sons, Dan Wesley Hess of San Francisco and Allen Hunter Hess of Houston; two sisters, Anne Perkins of Olathe, and Corinne Church of Osawatomie; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Earl Hess. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist church, with Pastor David Weible officiating. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery, with flag-folding services conducted at graveside by the Benjamin A. Fuller Post No. 64 of the Pittsburg American Legion. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Chapel. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 a.m. Sunday.
