Smith, the son of Emanuel and Nevada Toof Smith, was born near Aurora, Nebraska on February 20, 1904, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 23, 1980, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 3 days. Smith, the son of Emanuel and Nevada Toof Smith, was born near Aurora, Nebraska on February 20, 1904, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on January 23, 1980, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 3 days. He attended country schools and worked for Otto Heunefeld as a young man as a farm laborer. In 1925 he began farming on his own. He enjoyed raising livestock, and in 1979 he received the Hamilton County Pork Producers Award. He retired from farming in 1976, and moved to his present home in Aurora. On July 25, 1927 he was united in marriage to Mabel Springer, at Aurora. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1977. He was baptized in the Prarie Gem Church and later transferred his membership to the Pleasant View Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers William, Ralph and Henry Smith. Those who survive to cherish his memory are his wife Mabel; a son David of Aurora; daughter Mrs. Lloyd (Barbara) Dietrich of Marquette; three brothers, Frank of Aurora, Claude of Giltner and Edwin of Denair, California; four sisters, Mrs. Esther Oswald, Mrs. Alice Oswald, and Mrs. Fern James all of Aurora and Mrs. Mabel Andrews of Portland, Oregon; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and close friends.
